Here’s my christmas present for all of you!

Version 1.3 of Shorten2Ping is available for download…

The following changes have been made in Shorten2Ping 1.3:

Added a function to remove the new wp.me shortlink creation functions present in Wordpress.com stats plugin (if you’re using Shorten2Ping you dont need support for wp.me short links).
Improved Facebook support: Now if you upload and insert an image in your post, Shorten2Ping will add the needed tag in your post code to tell Facebook to take this image for the preview and not the first image in your page’s code like used to be before. If you want to force the use of an image, you can add a new custom field to the post named ‘fb_img‘ and put the full URL to the image in the value for this custom field.
Added function to remove HTML tags (if any) from post titles before sending notifications.
Updated compatibility tag to WordPress 2.9.

Version 1.2.8 of Shorten2Ping is available for download since some hours ago…

The following changes have been made in Shorten2Ping 1.2.8:

Finally fixed html entities in title when using Ping.fm to notify new posts (not happened with Twitter). The fix consists in using $post->the_title instead of get_the_title($post_id), so not really a Shorten2Ping’s bug but different output for two WP functions that should do the same.
Improved options page. Now looks better and it’s XHTML valid code
Updated locale file (.pot) and es_ES translation to reflect some changes in options page.

The following changes are made to Shorten2Ping 1.2.4:

Changed checking user level (number based) to checking capabilities for the options page.
Added YOURLS shortener support.
Added Su.pr shortener support. (User requested feature).
Added ‘linktext’ parameter to short_permalink() theme tag. Now you can choose between using short link as text for the link or use the “Short URL” text (default behaviour). (User requested feature).
Added ‘Self domain’ option for shortened permalinks. If you domain is short enough for you, this will not use any shortener service, but instead will use the post ID (default WP permalinks).
Added settings link on plugins page.
Fixed bug in Su.pr support (thanks to Brad for reporting it!).

Shorten2Ping 1.2 bug and fix

If you was one of the new Shorten2Ping users that installed 1.2 version for first time (this bug has no effect on upgrades, only new users), maybe you removed it after having problems saving the plugin configuration.

And maybe you tried again when I released the 1.2.1 version… but you had the same problem

That was because 1.2 creates a blank Shorten2Ping options in your WordPress database, and it needs to be deleted. So if you have Shorten2Ping 1.2.1 installed and cant save options, you can fix it manually, simply doing this:

Deactivate Shorten2Ping from the plugins menu.
Use PhpMyadmin to go to your wp_options table.
Remove shorten2ping_options.
Activate the plugin again.

But even better!!, you can install (or upgrade) Shorten2Ping 1.2.2 and this new plugin version will do the job for you.

Version 1.1.2 of Shorten2Ping is available for download.

The following changes are made to this version:

Removed adding and checking of post meta data ‘pinged = yes’. That was not needed since changes on 1.1.1.
Added ‘both’ option by user request to make possible to send notifications to both services (Ping.fm and Twitter) at once.
Fixed typo that may cause users with no admin level to access to the options page. (Thanks to David Jack Wange Olrik for reporting the issue.)

Shorten2Ping 1.1.1 released

Version 1.1.1 of Shorten2Ping is available for download.

The following changes are made to this version:

Changed action hook. Now the ping function is called only when post changed status from X to publish (where X can be new, draft, pending or future). So now, if you edit an old post (that you published before installing Shorten2Ping) or the post has any else status than mentioned this plugin will do anything.
Removed echo statement at tr.im function (used while debugging) that causes no returning to post edit page after publishing on some cases.
Removed @ operator at json_decode functions, now if any error happens while calling json_decode it will show on screen (previously this was causing a blank page when json_decode is missing on your PHP).

Shorten2Ping now supports direct Twitter notification and Tr.im

New (1.1) version of my plugin Shorten2Ping is available.

In this new version I have added some major improvements:

Added support for direct Twitter notification. Now you can choose to send your new blog post notification to Ping.fm or Twitter, even if you want can turn off completely notification system.
Added support for Tr.im shortener service. Now you can choose to make shortened permalinks using Bit.ly or Tr.im, even if you want to only use notification system, you can turn off the shortener function.
Reworked overall code to reduce database calls. Now only one call is done to retrieve all the options from the database.

You can download Shorten2Ping from WordPress extend directory if you want to install it manually (if you do so and already have this plugin installed, please, deactivate the plugin first prior to uploading the new version, and then activate again. This is required for importing old settings), or install it from your WordPress dashboard and forget about all

Notify your blog posts to Twitter, Facebook, Linkedid and others at once

If you use WordPress (self hosted version), Ping.fm and Bit.ly. You’re lucky today

I just released Shorten2Ping, a new plugin for WordPress that automatically sends status updates to Ping.fm using your personalized message and shortening the permalink of the post using Bit.ly.

This way, your WordPress installation notifies to Ping.fm about the new post, and Ping.fm spreads the same to Twitter, Facebook, and all networks configured in your Ping.fm profile

For me this’s a great way to spread my new blog posts without having to login in many different networks. And it’s true that I found some other plugins for the WordPress+Ping.fm integration, but honestly I thing thar they’re too big and complicated for my needs, and none of them have Bit.ly integration. So I have decided to share my little simple plugin with everyone who find it useful. The plugin is licensed under the GPL v3, so feel free to improve it by yourself (and share the improvements! ).

Some Shorten2Ping features:

Avoids to ping again when editing previously pinged post or even when editing an old post not pinged before.
Option to choose between Ping.fm or Twitter for new post notifications.
Option to choose between Bit.ly, Tr.im, YOURLS, Su.pr or even your own domain for shortened permalinks.
Option to turn off notification or shortener service. Now you can use Shorten2Ping only for notification if your domain is already short enough for you, or use only to get shortened urls for your posts.
Stores created shortened permalink in a post meta field (used for template integration).
Using rel="shorturl" as proposed at http://wiki.snaplog.com/short_url, creating auto-discovery link tag for short url on single post page header.
You can use a template tag for showing visitors the short URL (using the same rel attribute as above for the shortened permalink).
Locale support. Now available in English and Spanish (es_ES). If you want to make a translation for your language, use the shorten2ping.pot included and (if you want) send me the files to support@samuelaguilera.com for including it into the plugin package (you’ll be credited, of course).
Simple, fast, and useful

Requirements:

PHP 5.x with CURL and JSON enabled (maybe works too in PHP4, but not tested and not supported by me).
WordPress 2.7.x or higher (maybe would work on older WP, but not tested and not supported by me).
Required your own account for the services, Ping.fm or Twitter for the notification and Bit.ly or Tr.im for creating the short url.

You can download Shorten2Ping from WordPress extend directory and begin to forget about notifying your new blog posts manually in different social networks.
