Esto desde luego representa una ampliación de usos posibles para WordPress y para el que empieza desde cero con la versión 3.0 no supone más que ventajas. ¿Pero y qué pasa si ya tenemos nuestro WordPress lleno de contenido que nos gustaría convertir a entradas personalizadas?.

Para esos casos, tenemos dos opciones en forma de extensiones de WordPress.

Post Type Switcher añadirá a la pantalla de edición de la entrada una nueva sección, situada por encima del bloque de publicación, donde podremos convertir una página en entrada, una entrada en página, una entrada en cualquier tipo de entrada personalizada, etc… Simplemente seleccionando el tipo al que queremos convertir la entrada/página y guardando cambios.

Dada la interfaz de esta extensión, es evidente que sólo nos servirá si son pocas las entradas a las que les queremos cambiar el tipo. Ya que tenemos que ir una a una.

Convert Post Types por otro lado está pensaba para el cambio masivo del tipo de entrada. Esta extensión añadirá una opción nueva al menú herramientas de nuestro WordPress y nos permitirá cambiar categorías enteras de entradas, convirtiéndolas a los nuevos tipos entrada que seleccionemos (se pueden elegir varios simultáneamente) e incluso añadirles si queremos determinadas etiquetas, que se sumarán a las ya existentes en cada entrada.

Además de estas extensiones, se pueden encontrar ya muchas otras para aprovechar los “custom post types“, basta con buscar por esa misma frase en el directorio de extensiones de WordPress.

Spotify en WordPress

Fruto de ello es la extensión WP-Spotify de David Hermansson, que permite la inserción de canciones de Spotify en blogs de WordPress.

Por el momento WP-Spotify sólo permite hacerlo con canciones “sueltas”, no con álbumes o artistas.

El uso de esta extensión de Spotify para WordPress es bastante sencillo, si quieres insertar una canción de tu gusto en una entrada de tu blog, sólo tienes que seguir los siguientes pasos (una vez hayas instalado y activado la extensión, claro):

1. En Spotify (en el programa), haz clic con el botón derecho del ratón sobre la canción que quieres compartir en tu blog y escoge la opción “Copiar URI de Spotify“.
2. Pulsa en la pestaña HTML de tu editor de WordPress y sitúa el cursor en el lugar donde quieres que se inserte el recuadro con los detalles de la canción (lo aconsejable sería situar el curso en una línea vacía).
3. Pulsa el botón derecho del ratón y escoge “Pegar” (o pulsa CTRL+V) y verás algo como spotify:track:7e65gHts9ZB8AuxhcHZTp1
4. Lo único que tienes que hacer para que WP-Spotify haga su trabajo es añadir corchetes de apertura y cierre a dicho texto, de manera que quede así [spotify:track:7e65gHts9ZB8AuxhcHZTp1]

Y esto es todo amigos :) si has seguido correctamente las instrucciones, verás en la entrada donde has insertado el código de la canción un recuadro como el de imagen que acompaña a este artículo. (Nota: La URI de Spotify usada en el ejemplo es real y corresponde a la canción que se muestra en la imagen).

The following changes have been made in Shorten2Ping 1.4.1:

• Added is.gd shortener support.
• Added j.mp shortener support.
• Added wp.me shortener support.
• Added cli.gs shortener support.
• Added Traditional Chinese translation (zh_TW) , thanks to Pseric.
• Updated spanish (es_ES) translation.
• Improved Facebook Thumbnail support. Now uses the new post thumbnail function if available and thumbnail was defined in the post by the user. If not, uses the first attached image or the one the user sets using fb_thumb custom field (like previous version).
• Changed su.pr function to use CURL instead of fopen.
• Changed from rel=”short_url” to rel=”shortlink”. So now uses the same like wp.me
• Improved settings handling using WP API for settings.
• Fixed removing of the ‘Get shorlink’ button if (WP) stats plugin is active.

You can install it from your WordPress dashboard or download Shorten2Ping from WordPress extend directory and install it manually. If you do it manually, remember to deactivate and activate the plugin before use new version.

Actualmente el servicio de encuentra en fase de beta privada a la que se puede acceder mediante lo que han llamado “entradas de oro” que enviarán (supuestamente) transcurridos unos días a todo aquel que las solicite.

Sin embargo lo que no parece que dejen muy claro es si durante esta fase beta cobrarán a sus usuarios los $25 que planean cobrar por el servicio. Lo lógico sería que no, por ser una beta y porque además en el formulario de alta de VaultPress han habilitado una casilla para indicar a sus responsables cuanto estarías dispuesto a pagar por este servicio “en un mundo perfecto”.

Tal como describen el servicio, tiene bastante buena pinta ya que entre otras características dicen que el proceso de backup se realiza en tiempo real. Con lo que puedes estar seguro de que si escribes, editas, o subes un archivo, VaultPress estará al mismo tiempo haciendo copia del mismo. Sin embargo no da detalles, por ejemplo, del espacio en disco del que podrá disponer cada usuario o de como se realiza el proceso de copia a los servidores de VaultPress.

Seguramente, como casi todo lo que hace Automattic, será un gran servicio. Pero me hace preguntarme… ¿Pensará Automattic en dejar algo del pastel del soporte técnico a los que hemos apostado por WordPress como herramienta de trabajo? :)

ACTUALIZACIÓN: Un día después de escribir el artículo han bajado el precio inicial de $25 a $10… Supongo que han debido de tener muchas sugerencias de gente que estaría dispuesta a pagar esa cantidad y no la inicial.

Version 1.3 of Shorten2Ping is available for download…

The following changes have been made in Shorten2Ping 1.3:

• Added a function to remove the new wp.me shortlink creation functions present in WordPress.com stats plugin (if you’re using Shorten2Ping you dont need support for wp.me short links).
• Improved Facebook support: Now if you upload and insert an image in your post, Shorten2Ping will add the needed tag in your post code to tell Facebook to take this image for the preview and not the first image in your page’s code like used to be before. If you want to force the use of an image, you can add a new custom field to the post named ‘fb_img‘ and put the full URL to the image in the value for this custom field.
• Added function to remove HTML tags (if any) from post titles before sending notifications.
• Updated compatibility tag to WordPress 2.9.

Si usas Thematic para desarrollar tus themes, o estás usando algún theme basado en thematic, deberías revisar muy seriamente si te ha podido afectar este hecho. Ya que mientras themeshaper.com estuvo hackeado, el responsable de dicha acción sustituyó los enlaces de descarga habituales de thematic (que se descarga normalmente desde los repositorios oficiales de WordPress), por unos enlaces para descargar una versión modificada de thematic desde la propia web (hackeada) de themeshaper.com

Comenta Ian Stewart que puedes saber fácilmente si estás usando una versión de thematic hackeada si tienes un archivo llamado sv_ss.php en la ruta thematic/library/languages/

De todos modos, como el propio Ian dice, siempre puedes despejar completamente tus dudas volviendo a descargar thematic desde el repositorio oficial de WordPress y sustituir tu versión instalada por la nuevamente descargada.

The following changes have been made in Shorten2Ping 1.2.8:

• Finally fixed html entities in title when using Ping.fm to notify new posts (not happened with Twitter). The fix consists in using $post->the_title instead of get_the_title($post_id), so not really a Shorten2Ping’s bug but different output for two WP functions that should do the same.
• Improved options page. Now looks better and it’s XHTML valid code :)
• Updated locale file (.pot) and es_ES translation to reflect some changes in options page.

• Changed checking user level (number based) to checking capabilities for the options page.
• Added YOURLS shortener support.
• Added Su.pr shortener support. (User requested feature).
• Added ‘linktext’ parameter to short_permalink() theme tag. Now you can choose between using short link as text for the link or use the “Short URL” text (default behaviour). (User requested feature).
• Added ‘Self domain’ option for shortened permalinks. If you domain is short enough for you, this will not use any shortener service, but instead will use the post ID (default WP permalinks).
• Added settings link on plugins page.
• Fixed bug in Su.pr support (thanks to Brad for reporting it!).

And maybe you tried again when I released the 1.2.1 version… but you had the same problem :(

That was because 1.2 creates a blank Shorten2Ping options in your WordPress database, and it needs to be deleted. So if you have Shorten2Ping 1.2.1 installed and cant save options, you can fix it manually, simply doing this:

1. Deactivate Shorten2Ping from the plugins menu.
2. Use PhpMyadmin to go to your wp_options table.
3. Remove shorten2ping_options.
4. Activate the plugin again.

But even better!!, you can install (or upgrade) Shorten2Ping 1.2.2 and this new plugin version will do the job for you.
